NSW Libs defector gets top ballot spot

The former Liberal Party member who's standing as an independent in the marginal electorate of Lindsay has drawn the number one spot on the ballot paper for the NSW seat.

Penrith councillor Marcus Cornish is one of eleven candidates contesting the western Sydney seat, along with incumbent Liberal MP Fiona Scott who currently holds the electorate on a slim three per cent margin.

Mr Cornish was suspended from the Liberal party after he distributed an email accusing Ms Scott of voting for Malcolm Turnbull over ex-prime minister Tony Abbott in last year's leadership spill.

Ms Scott meanwhile drew the number three spot.
