No bail bid by Murray River drowning mum

The case of a mother accused of drowning one son and trying to drown another in the Murray River has been mentioned briefly in a southern NSW court.

The 27-year-old woman, who can't be named for legal reasons, did not apply for bail in Deniliquin Local Court on Tuesday and it was formally refused.

She is charged with murdering her five-year-old son and attempting to murder his nine-year-old brother in March in Moama, on the NSW-Victorian border.

Police have said the older boy was able to escape after a dog intervened but the body of his five-year-old sibling was found downstream a few days later.

The case is due back in court on July 4 when the mother is due to appear via videolink.
