Models accuse NSW photographer of assaults

An additional eight women have accused a NSW amateur photographer of preying on them during modelling sessions in his backyard studio near Newcastle.

Prosecutor Jai Silkman told the Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday that the police brief of evidence against Allan Todd Cameron, 54, in relation to the eight women was yet to be completed.

Cameron was initially charged with indecently and sexually assaulting three women during modelling sessions at his Gateshead studio over the past five years.

But he now faces a total of 61 charges involving 11 young women dating back to 2009.

The amateur photographer has been in custody since his arrest in October this year after a 20-year-old woman claimed she had been sexually assaulted during a modelling session in June 2017.

Court documents reveal Cameron lived with his wife and was self-employed as a photographer and computer technician.

"The prisoner appears to actively seek out young females on social media to engage in photographic shoots," Lake Macquarie police Sergeant Gavin Skeffington noted when listing his reasons for refusing to release Cameron on bail before his court appearance on October 19.

"The accused has shown no remorse towards the victim after the offence. He has denied all charges. Each victim holds fears in relation to the accused."

As a result of the initial complaint against Cameron, police seized a computer, which allegedly contained more than 300,000 images, a number of which were sexually explicit.

Detectives then spoke with two other women, both aged 25, who reported that they, too, were assaulted during modelling sessions in 2012 and 2017.

Cameron did not appear during the brief mention of his case on Wednesday before magistrate Robert Stone.

Defence lawyer Mark Evans told the court Cameron would not be applying for bail and the matter was adjourned to January 31.
