Transgender victim threatened at NSW court

A transgender woman allegedly bashed by a group of men says she has been threatened by one of them outside a Sydney court.

Stephanie McCarthy was at Newtown court on Thursday where Nicholas Wells, one of the men accused of repeatedly punching her at a nearby hotel earlier in June, pleaded not guilty to assault.

While leaving the court, she was taunted and threatened by another man accused of assaulting her, Ms McCarthy told AAP.

"He said `see you real soon'," she said, adding he made a throat-slitting gesture.

Ms McCarthy told AAP she had agreed to a bail condition, which would allow him to move to Tasmania, but will go to police to complain about the incident outside court.

Wells, who is on bail, is due before the same court on August 13, while the other man is due to have his matter mentioned later on Thursday.

A witness, who didn't want to be named, told AAP that Ms McCarthy was yelling at the man as he fled from a photographer outside the court.
