Man pleads not guilty to mosque fight

A man who was allegedly involved in a racially charged street fight in Sydney's southwest has pleaded not guilty to affray.

Abdullah Traljesic, who was charged in 2012 over the violent protest in Sydney's Hyde Park, was one of three men who allegedly became involved in the brawl which broke out in Lakemba on December 22.

Police say the fight erupted after derogatory remarks were made by two men towards people attending the mosque.

During a brief appearance at Burwood Local Court, the 43-year-old pleaded not guilty to affray and resisting or hinder police in the execution of duty.

It comes almost two years after Traljesic was placed on a good behaviour bond for assault after his involvement in the violent Sydney protest against an anti-Islamic film in 2012.

The Hyde Park protest, which was sparked by the US-produced YouTube film Innocence of Muslims, resulted in several arrests after protesters clashed with police.

Traljesic, who is on bail, will reappear in court in February.
