A 34-year-old man will remain behind bars after being refused bail today, over the alleged murder of another man in Sydney's west.

So-sue Tonga, from Melbourne, is accused of stabbing the victim in the head with a screwdriver, at a home in Eastern Creek yesterday morning.

Tonga has undergone a mental health assessment, with police investigating whether a love triangle was behind the fatal attack.

The injured man was taken to Westmead Hospital but died shortly after.

The accused, who was arrested at the scene, was refused bail when he appeared in Mount Druitt Local Court today.

He only spoke to confirm his name and was refused bail. He'll appear in court again in October.
