An unresponsive young man has been found lying atop a 50cm-wide wall, seven metres above the ground, on a Sydney rooftop.

Bomb squad and rescue officers were deployed after neighbours suspected a prowler was lurking on the common brick wall separating a home from a hotel just before midnight on Friday.

The 21-year-old was safely retrieved and hospitalised as a precaution, before he was taken to Surry Hills police station and charged with trespass. He has been granted bail to appear in court on November 24.
