The body of a 27-year-old man has been found in a river in the Kangaroo Valley, south of Sydney, following a suspected drowning.

The man, who is understood to have been a tourist, disappeared after he waded into the river near the Bundeela picnic grounds and got into difficulty yesterday afternoon.

Police, State Emergency Service volunteers and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter conducted an extensive search of the area in an attempt to find him.

Police divers found his body a short distance away from where he disappeared at around 6.15pm.

An investigation is now underway.
