NSW home trashed in ice-fuelled rage

An ice-affected man who broke in and barricaded himself inside a south Sydney home for several hours, ripped a toilet from the floor and threw it out a window.

A mother and her children were left terrified on Thursday night after a man allegedly broke into their home at Bexley.

The man allegedly damaged property, refused to leave and threatened police.

During the four-hour stand-off with police, the man ripped a toilet from the bathroom floor and threw it out the window.

"It demonstrates the propensity for violence for some of these people that are affected by ice," Detective Superintendent Dave Donohue told reporters on Friday.

The 34-year-old man was arrested just after 2am on Friday and taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard.

The residents of the home managed to escape.

"Next door somebody came running out yelling `someone is in our house, someone is in our house'," neighbour Rebecca Socal told the Seven Network.

"So I quickly told them to get in my house and quickly come inside where it was safe."
