A coronial inquest will continue into the death of a 21-year-old student who jumped from a window during a western Sydney apartment blaze.

Connie Zhang jumped to her death from the fifth floor of a Bankstown unit block on September 6, 2012, when she could no longer cling to the bedroom's window frame after it became too hot.

At an inquest on Monday, the building's strata manager conceded the building had fire safety defects.

Bankstown Council and Fire and Rescue NSW had ordered fire safety improvements be implemented at the complex before the blaze, the inquest heard.

"We spoke about it, but we didn't get it out and go through every item, no," Peter Poulos, from Home World Realty, told Glebe Coroner's Court.

It is believed the fire started in a waste bin, rather than an air-conditioner as previously thought.
