Gang-rape victim begs Baird on support

A Sydney woman who was gang-raped by three men on the banks of a river has made an emotional plea to Premier Mike Baird to reverse cuts to NSW crime victim support.

Katrina Keshishian tells her own heart-wrenching story in a video posted on Wednesday as part of a change.org campaign.

"When I was 20 three men took turns in raping me on the banks of a river before dumping me at a service station," she said.

She says the following seven years had been "hell".

"It's very hard to talk about, but I need to make a stand," she said.

Ms Keshishian waited six years for her entitlements after the 2008 attack.

But in 2013 the coalition government changed the laws and her compensation dropped from $50,000 to $15,000 following a reduction in the capped amount available to victims.

With the NSW election on March 28, she's making a personal plea for Mr Baird not to "keep victims suffering" and wants him to commit to reversing the changes.

Ms Keshishian has been lobbying hard, challenging Mr Baird at Sunday's leaders' debate.

"Mr Baird, right now you can decide to do the right and help victims of crime," she says in the video.

"Please don't let politics get in the way of doing what's right."

She says she's making the plea on behalf of all 24,000 victims impacted by retrospective cuts to crime compensation.

The change.org petition has been signed by more than 132,000 people.
