Fire engulfs western Sydney kebab shop

A western Sydney kebab shop has been severely damaged after a fire broke out in the kitchen.

Emergency services evacuated two people from the apartments above the shop on Auburn Road in Auburn when the blaze started just before 7am on Friday.

The fire has since been extinguished but more than 20 firefighters remain on the scene.

"The fire spread on the ground floor and did reach the second level so crews are mopping up now," a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman told AAP.

No one was injured and police say investigations into the cause of the blaze are continuing.
