Driver critical after highway truck crash

A ute driver is fighting for his life in hospital after his car collided with a truck on the M1 highway on the NSW Central Coast.

The 46-year-old was trapped in the car for almost an hour near the Mooney Mooney Bridge and suffered critical injuries to the chest, pelvis and legs.

A Careflight helicopter landed on the highway to drop off a medical crew to assist paramedics on the scene.

The driver was airlifted to Sydney's Royal North Shore hospital.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
