A man accused of murdering two people on the NSW-Victorian border has appeared in court.

Daniel Poynton, 21, was charged over the murders of Jamie Edwards and mother-of-four Joelene Joyce, both 36, who were found shot dead on Wednesday on a road outside the small town of Moama in southern NSW.

He was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant in Moama and was charged with two counts of murder on Friday night.
