Disgraced dermatologist back in jail

A Sydney dermatologist who assaulted female patients has been jailed for up to three years.

David Wee Tong was sentenced on Wednesday for 12 counts of aggravated indecency, one count of common assault and one count of aggravated indecent assault against patients between February 1999 and January 2001.

The disgraced skin doctor was previously jailed for similar offences in Victoria.

Sydney District Court Judge Peter Whitford has now sentenced him to three years behind bars, with a non-parole period of 18 months.

In a victim impact statement previously read to court, one of Tong's victims said his assault haunted her for more than a decade.

"He went about his role as a doctor to manipulate me emotionally and manoeuvred me into positions to take photographs and then to actually assault me," she said.

Tong's barrister had argued that he should serve only a short jail term because he is losing his eyesight due to glaucoma.
