Woman driver dies in Hume Highway crash

A woman has died after her car hit an object on the Hume Highway near Goulburn, in the NSW Southern Tablelands, and rolled on to its roof.

The woman was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero, with four passengers, when she tried but failed to avoid hitting an object on the road near Yarra about 10.15am on Tuesday, police said.

She died at the scene.

A female passenger was seriously hurt and was airlifted to Canberra Hospital while the three other passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Goulburn Base Hospital.

All southbound lanes of the Hume Highway were closed near the Federal Highway for a number of hours before the road was fully reopened about 4pm.
