Girl hit and killed by truck on NSW Central Coast

A five-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a truck on the NSW Central Coast, just moments after the school day had ended.

The primary school student was struck after she got off a bus on Hastings Street in Rocky Point, near Wyong, about 3.40pm.

It is believed the girl's mother and some of her classmates witnessed the incident. Today was the first day of term two.

Police said after stepping off the bus it appeared the girl may have walked down the road a little before attempting to cross.

"It appears the bus may have been obscuring her from the truck driver," a spokeswoman said.

She suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene despite attempts to revive her.

The driver of the truck has been taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner. 

Hastings Street has been cordoned off and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
