Carjacker hit by police car after chase

A man who allegedly attacked a taxi driver, stole his vehicle and sped away from police is in hospital after being struck by a police car in Sydney's southwest.

A taxi driver picked up a 29-year-old from Lidcombe train station at 2am on Thursday, during the trip the man allegedly began attacking the taxi driver, who pulled over, before the man dragged him from the car and drove away.

The taxi was seen by police a short time later in Busby where the driver sped towards the police car smashing into its front and sped off.

The chase ended when the man led police into a dead end, attempted to jump out of the taxi but was struck by a police car.

The man is in a stable condition under police guard at Liverpool Hospital.

The taxi driver was treated for minor injuries.
