Carer charged over deadly house fire in south-west Sydney

A disability support worker has been charged over a fatal Sydney house fire almost five years ago.

The blaze started early on April 13, 2021, at the disability share home in River Avenue, Carramar, in the city's south-west.

Two men who were residents were pulled to safety by emergency service workers.

One of the men, aged 38, was unresponsive and was treated by paramedics and firefighters at the scene but could not be revived.

Police later set up Strike Force Andretta to investigate the blaze.

Following inquiries, about 8.50am yesterday detectives arrested a 27-year-old man and charged him with manslaughter.

Police will allege in court that the man was negligent in his role as a carer, leaving the residents unsupervised.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in court today.
