Car falls six metres off NSW car park
An elderly NSW woman is fighting for her life in hospital after her car fell six metres off a multi-storey car park.
Police say the 83-year-old driver was leaving the second floor of the Tweed Centro Shopping Centre car park in northern NSW on Wednesday morning when she was involved in a minor collision with another car.
She then allegedly drove off at speed and crashed through a safety barrier and plummeted six metres. She then drove another 100 metres before crashing into a barbecue area.
Bystanders helped the woman out of her car and she was taken to Tweed Heads hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The crash comes a day after senior NSW Police officer John Hartley suggested that people over 70 should reconsider their driving abilities.
