The body of a man believed to be aged in his 70s has been found after a fire at a house in the NSW outback town of Broken Hill.

Emergency services were called to the semi-detached home in Argent Street about 1am today after neighbours reported seeing flames.

The heat from the fire was so intense firefighters initially couldn't get inside.
