Brenda Lin, the sole survivor of the massacre of her family, is the latest relative of a convicted murderer to observe the proceedings in Gordon Wood's malicious prosecution lawsuit.

She and her estranged aunt, Kathy Lin, sat apart and listened for some hours to the cross-examination of NSW senior prosecutor Mark Tedeschi QC on Monday.

Brenda Lin's uncle, Robert Xie - who is married to Kathy Lin - is serving a life sentence for murdering Brenda Lin's parents, two younger brothers and her aunt in the bedrooms of their Sydney home in the early hours of July 18, 2009.

The then student was on an overseas school holiday at the time and testified at his trial that her uncle had been sexually abusing her.

Her aunt Kathy still believes in the innocence of her husband, who wants to appeal against his convictions.

Mr Tedeschi was the prosecutor at Xie's first completed trial, which ended in a hung jury.

Kathy Lin has attended Mr Wood's civil case in the NSW Supreme Court on a number of occasions, as has Rachelle Louise, the former girlfriend of convicted murderer Simon Gittany.

Mr Tedeschi successfully prosecuted Gittany's trial.
