Body found near NSW whale-watching spot

The body of a Sydney man has been found near a popular whale-watching lookout in Sydney's southeast.

Emergency services were called to Cape Solander lookout in Kamay Botany Bay National Park about 1.15pm on Sunday after the body was seen on rocks.

A police helicopter was used in the retrieval operation.

Detectives on Monday say the body is believed to be that of a 41-year-old man from Brighton-Le-Sands and appealed to anyone who may have seen him in the area on Sunday.

Police described the man as having an olive complexion, black hair and wearing a blue jacket with a black hoodie underneath, blue pants and black shoes.

They've also called for anyone who may have seen a red Hyundai I20 to contact authorities.

It's hoped a post-mortem examination will establish the man's cause of death.
