NSW Premier Mike Baird will travel to India seeking trading opportunities.

The four-day trip through three cities in mid January is Mr Baird's second international tour. He travelled to China in September.

Two-way trade between NSW and India was valued at $1.8 billion in the 2013/14 financial year, he said.

"This has been stronger in the past and I'm determined to continue sending the message that NSW is open for business with India," Mr Baird said in a statement on Friday.

The premier will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian state of Gujarat, covering education, water security, skills development and urban development.

He'll also meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"(I) hope that our well-established cultural connections can lead to greater co-operation in business, tourism and investment for the future prosperity of our citizens," Mr Baird said.
