'Why wouldn't you say thank you?': Touching message left for firies at NSW North Coast home
A touching message has been left for firefighters as they continue to battle blazes on the north coast of NSW.
Rachel Rowe, 47, left a detailed hand-written note on a board outside their house in the Byron Bay hinterland as they evacuated.
A fire is burning about 5km away.

It included not only key details that there was a water tank plus swimming pool if needed at the property - but also invited crews to raid the fridge.
"5000 litres in concrete tank next to shed. Direct line primed to petrol genie in little dog kennel," it says.

"Maybe 2000 litres in house tank beneath veggie garden.
"Plus plunge pool on deck.
"Fuel in car park. All animals and people are gone.
"Back door to house is open. Help yourself to food and drinks in fridge.
"The house is the most important. If we lose the rest [it] doesn't matter.
"Thank you. You guys rock our world."

"I'm rather surprised by the fuss that's been made," she told 9News.
"Why wouldn't you say 'thank you?'
"These amazing men and women are putting their life on the line."
She said the fire has changed direction, and they have been able to return home for now.
"We're lucky today because the southerly has come on, and it's pushing the fire away but its unfortunately it's going to mean other families are affected," she said.
It comes after a man returned to his home on Friday to find fire crews who had saved it had left him a special note.
Paul Sefky, from Yarranbella in the state's mid-north coast, found the note written by the Uranga RFS sitting on his kitchen bench.
"It was a pleasure to save your house. Sorry we that we could not save your sheds," the note read.
"P.S. - we owe you some milk."
