A man has been rescued after being trapped by a giant bell when it fell on him in a regional NSW town.

The bell fell on the 77-year old man in a reserve in Nimmitabel, in the Monaro Region, NSW police have confirmed.

He is believed to have been working on the bell, which was bought by locals as a tourist attraction a few years ago.

The nearly 100-year-old  bell was bought by locals as a tourist attraction for $60,000 from the USA.
