Musical inspired by Raygun to premiere this weekend

Australian breakdancer Raygun's foray onto the world stage will play out in a new musical set to premiere in Sydney this weekend.

Raygun the Musical was written by Australian comedian and musician Steph Broadbridge, who was fascinated by the response to Rachel Gunn after her performance at the Paris Olympics.

"I was obsessed with the story and desperate to see what happened in terms of how the different generations and the different genders responded," she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The musical will feature a cast of eight people, puppets and original songs including You May Be a B-girl, But You'll Always Be an A-Girl To Me, I'm Breaking Down and I'm a Celebrity.

The production will debut in Sydney on Saturday before the show will run at comedy festivals in Sydney, Melbourne and Edinburgh next year.

While this weekend's performance at Kinselas Hotel in Darlinghurst is sold out, there is one person Broadbridge wants to see in the audience.

"I really want Raygun to see it," she said.

"I'm terrified, though. What if she doesn't like it?"
