Sydney M4 reopens but motorists urged to allow extra travel time
A police operation that forced the closure of the M4 at Merrylands in western Sydney early today has finished, but major delays for drivers are continuing.
Both lanes of the motorway between Burnett Street and Cumberland Highway. were shut due to the operation, near the Coleman Street off-ramp.
It led to a huge backup of vehicles and major delays for commuters.

On the Cumberland Highway, traffic was backed up for 20km, extending way past the M7 motorway.
One tradie told 9News that he expected to be delayed by two hours on his journey to work this morning.
Local buses are also delayed.
All lanes of the M4 are now open, but motorists are urged to allow extra travel time.
