Man who dragged nurse into Melbourne CBD laneway could avoid jail
A man cleared of intending to sexually assault a woman he dragged into a Melbourne CBD laneway may avoid prison on a lesser charge, a court has heard.
The Essendon District footballer Jackson Williams, labelled a coward by prosecutors, could be handed a community corrections order for assault.
In October 2018, police were told the nurse was walking to work along Little Lonsdale Street when she was approached by Williams, then aged 19.

Williams admitted he snatched the nurse off the street by the neck, placed her into a headlock and dragged her into the laneway, before pinning the woman to the ground.
But he maintains there was no sexual intent.
The court heard today that Williams, who is Indigenous, had been subjected to racial abuse and other threats since his conviction, which is being investigated by police.
