Rising football star allegedly planned to sexually assault woman at CBD alleyway

A promising young footballer has fronted court accused of planning to sexually assault a 39-year-old woman in an alleyway in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police believe the woman was walking along Little Lonsdale Street when she was allegedly approached by Jackson Williams about 6.30am on Sunday.

Mr Williams, 19, is accused of grabbing the woman before attempting to drag her towards Brights Place. She managed to fight the alleged offender off and avoided injury.

Overnight, the Gladstone Park local handed himself in to police. He has been charged with intent to commit a sexual act, unlawful imprisonment, recklessly cause injury and other assault related charges.

He faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, where he was remanded in custody.

He will next face court on January 18.
