'Nobody's cooperating': Top cop's blunt ultimatum to Hamze family as crackdown continues after double shooting

Multiple people have been arrested and firearms and drugs seized as police continue to crack down on organised crime in Sydney following the shooting deaths of Salim Hamze and his father Toufik.

Detective Chief Superintendent Darren Bennett said today that six search warrants were executed this morning, leading to a number of arrests and seizures in Granville and Westmead in the city's west.

"Hopefully it'll work in terms of stopping any further conflict and getting as many people in prison as we can," he said today.

Salim and Toufik Hamze were shot dead in broad daylight in their car outside a Guildford home last Wednesday, October 20.

Salim, 18, was known to police, but there was no indication Toufik, 64, was involved in any criminal matters.

It's believed the shooting is linked to an ongoing feud between the Hamze family and another gang family, the Alameddines, over drugs and territory in Sydney's south-west.

"We're doing everything we can to keep the community safe from the crimes that are taking place," Chief Superintendent Bennett said.

Yesterday, police seized a car they suspected was used as a getaway vehicle during the shooting.

Chief Superintendent Bennett said the garage, the home, and the four cars seized then were "all central" to police inquiries.

"We're very confident that car was centrally used to commit the crime," he said.

Told that members of the Hamze family reportedly felt they were not receiving sufficient police protection, Chief Superintendent Bennett said the police were working to protect the community from the Hamze family.

"If the Hamze family is not feeling they're getting as much protection from the police as they can, they should come see me, and say what they want, and what they know," he said.

"Nobody's cooperating with us."

More information about the most recent arrests is expected to be released later today.
