Police divers find body of fisherman missing in the Nepean River

A man who disappeared after trying to retrieve a fishing rod that had fallen into the Nepean River in Sydney has been found dead.

The 68-year-old was with his wife when he failed to resurface after entering the water yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to Nortons Basin at Mulgoa and a wide-scale search was launched.

Rescue efforts resumed today and police divers located the man's body about 10.40am.

The search involved NSW Police, the State Emergency Service swift water rescue team, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and a PolAir helicopter.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
