Man driving allegedly stolen truck rams into police cars, causes 'chaos'

A man in an allegedly stolen truck has left a trail of destruction across Western Sydney after ramming into police cars and hitting a school crossing.

Just after midnight today, police were called to Toongabbie Road in Girraween over reports a man allegedly broke into a parked truck.

Officers arrived at the scene but after approaching the driver, he allegedly reversed into another parked truck and took off.

A pursuit began through suburban streets, including Normac Road when the man allegedly smashed into a parked Toyota Camry.

The truck continued through Toongabbie, where police attemptted to deploy road spikes on Blacktown Road.

But the man allegedly diverted through a roundabout and continued on with six police cars in pursuit.

The chase moved to the Great Western Highway towards Prospect, where more road spikes are laid and successfully slow down the truck.

The truck then veered across the median strip and crashed into several police vehicles.

NSW Police chief inspector Sean Gabin said a taser was then deployed.

"The male was able to be arrested at the scene in the cabin of the vehicle," he said.

Despite it being a slow-speed chase, police said it was still incredibly dangerous.

In total, seven vehicles were damaged, including five police cars.

An inspector was assessed by paramedics when the airbags in his car were deployed.

The 45-year-old driver was charged with ten offences, including police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, steal motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow.

Bollards outside Girraween High School were also flattened.

"He was going in the middle of the road, just knocking everything down," witness Elizabeth told 9News.

"It felt like explosions."

"It was chaos," another witness, Tayger, said.
