How a Sydney cafe and its customers are helping those in need of a meal
A cafe and community in Sydney's south-west are providing free meals to locals in need with a pay-it-forward meal initiative.
The Rise N' Dine cafe in Gregory Hills encourages people to purchase a meal from their menu that is then donated to a customer in need.
The pay-it-forward initiative has already seen 50 meals purchased for donation in the six months since the cafe opened.

"Whenever people come in to eat the meals free, we just tell them to choose from the menu and take whatever they want," cafe owner Sunil Ranabhat told 9News.
"They always get really thankful for the cafe, but I say it's not us.
"[The option is there for] a person who doesn't have the money to feed or are struggling with their financial situation."
Ranabhat said those struggling were welcome to collect a meal at his cafe whenever they needed.
"Don't be scared, don't be shy, if you really need help please come and have food here," he said.

Gregory Hill residents have backed the idea wholeheartedly.
"People are really struggling with interest rates and the cost of living, so I think it's a really great idea," local Darryl Butte said.
"It's pretty good for the local community to be giving back something to people in need," another resident, Adam Harrison, said.
The idea sparked after Ranabhat came across a pub in Canada offering the same kind of pay-it-forward system.
