West Australians may soon be able to travel to different regions as authorities consider lifting restrictions in the state.

Premier Mark McGowan said that WA was "streets ahead" of states and territories on the east coast in the fight against coronavirus, and that an announcement would be made this Sunday.

"Victoria and New South Wales, they are clearly in far more trouble than Western Australia. So they will have a different point of view than us," Mr McGowan said.

He said today's National Cabinet meeting would dictate what restrictions would be lifted and confirmed helping the economy recover is a priority.

"We have to be very, very careful with health, we have to be cautious and considered in what we do," Mr McGowan said.

"But we do need to get people back to work. We can't have businesses and individuals' lives continuing to be destroyed - if we can do it in a safe, secure, and healthy way, that is the way forward we will go."

Due to the low rate of infection in WA, some stage three restrictions have been lifted.

Gatherings of up to 10 people are allowed at indoor and outdoor events such as weddings, funerals and exercise classes where equipment is not shared.

People are still advised to stay home when possible, but non-essential recreational activities like picnics, fishing and water activities are allowed.

While Mr McGowan said Sunday's announcement could mean looser travel restrictions for West Australians travelling to different regions, border lockdowns with other states and territories would remain in place to maintain the low level of infection in the state.

There are currently nine cases of COVID-19 in WA, with one new overnight case breaking the state's nine-day streak of no cases.
