Heat maps are being rolled out across New South Wales showing clusters of coronavirus cases, aiming to inform residents about infection rates in their communities.

The maps will allow people to see the amount of active COVID-19 cases postcode by postcode, including active cases, those who have recovered and the number of tests completed.

You can explore the heat maps and cases post code by post code here.

In an Australian first, the heat maps will aim to encourage people to come forward to get tested for the virus once they see how COVID-19 is impacting their local area.

The Berejiklian government will announce the new data mapping today.

"This new way of showing NSW Health data will help communities understand the numbers of people being tested, and encourage more people with symptoms to come forward for testing when they see the impact COVID-19 is having on their local area," NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

"It also provides encouraging data showing how people are bouncing back from the virus."

"NSW has one of the highest COVID-19 testing rates in the world. We have tested more than 200,000 people and have capacity to test more than 110,000 in a fortnight," Ms Berejiklian said.

For example in Liverpool – which was identified as a coronavirus hotspot on April 14 – testing rates are now at 2600, a jump from a previous count of 1000.
