Sydney's coronavirus hotspots ramp up testing for anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms

Anyone experiencing mild symptoms of coronavirus in certain Sydney hotspots are being urged to get themselves tested at one of several new COVID-19 clinics.

The testing centres are in newly-identified coronavirus hotspots, including parts of the city's west and north.

It is hoped fast-tracked testing will help slow down the rate of community transmission.

The areas with clusters of COVID-19 include Penrith, Blacktown, Westmead, Liverpool, Ryde, Cumberland, the Inner West, Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick.

NSW Health authorities are encouraging those suffering mild flu symptoms in these areas to get themselves to the clinics, before passing the highly contagious virus on to others.

In Caddens, in the city's western suburbs, a sixth staff member at the Anglicare Newmarch House aged care facility has been confirmed to have COVID-19 and been working with elderly residents for several days before being removed and isolated.

The areas have been chosen by the NSW Government because the confirmed coronavirus cases so far have no known source of transmission.

In the city's east, Bondi and Tamarama have recorded the worst numbers in the state, 110 COVID-19 cases.

Bondi is a known hotspot, with backpackers seen as a primary reason for the spread. Pop-up testing stations are now operating on the beachfront.

In Victoria, there have been 1268 cases and 14 deaths, Stonnington council has recorded 88 cases and is the worst-hit location in the state.

Similar to Sydney's socio-economic coronavirus trend, well-heeled Toorak is part of Stonnington.

There have also been 80 cases in Banyule, in Melbourne's north-east.
