Another driver allegedly tries to plough through Queensland border barrier

A truck driver who was refused entry into Queensland has been charged after he allegedly drove his prime mover through a barricade on the Southern Darling Downs.

Police say a 26-year-old man ploughed his truck through an unmanned hard border at Keetah Crossing in Yelarbon just before midnight on Wednesday after being turned around at Goondiwindi earlier that day for failing to have evidence of a negative COVID-19 test.

Damage to the gates was discovered the next day by a border patrol crew and investigators pulled CCTV from the crossing.

The alleged driver was found in Texas on Thursday afternoon and ordered to return to New South Wales.

He has been charged with unlawfully entering Queensland against Public Health Orders and wilful damage and is due to appear in Inglewood Magistrates Court on November 18.

The crossing has since been secured with concrete blocks.

Yesterday evening another man was handed a $4000 fine after driving through border barriers at Coolangatta.

The 53-year-old was refused entry at the border check points multiple times yesterday afternoon because he didn't have a valid entry pass.

He was attempting to return home after travelling into New South Wales to visit friends.

After he was refused, he drove into barriers at Dixon St, and his truck became stuck on the pavement.

Queensland Police said as well as a fine for failing to comply with COVID-19 border directions, he was given a traffic infringement fine.

Mr Gollschewski today said a total of 191 vehicles were turned back at the border yesterday out of 16,160.

Six people were placed in hotel quarantine.
