Two truck drivers identified as 'low risk' COVID-19 cases in Queensland

Two truck drivers are the latest COVID-19 cases to be discovered in Queensland, but health authorities say the risk posed to the community is low.

The drivers, from Somerset and the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, tested positive in NSW yesterday before returning a negative test.

Under strict essential worker rules, when the truckies weren't driving they stayed home with their families, who will now have to isolate for 14 days.

One of the drivers slept overnight at a roadhouse in St George, while the other made a fuel stop at Bollon.

It's believed at both locations the risk of contact with others is minimal.

"We are not overly concerned about these two," Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said today.

Another case acquired overseas was detected in hotel quarantine and three cases were detected on a marine vessel.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said the risk the truck drivers pose to the community "is very low".

"These two truck drivers were superb. They did their routine testing and extra testing," Dr Young said.

"They stayed at home when they weren't driving the truck."

Police intercepted 5000 cars and heavy vehicles at the NSW-Queensland border overnight.

Of those, 199 were refused entry into Queensland and 17 were essential workers who were not yet vaccinated.

Essential workers who cross the border into Queensland must be vaccinated with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
