‘This is not about revenge’: Parents of Australian brothers killed in Mexico to attend murder trial
The parents of two Australian brothers who were killed on a surf trip in Mexico will travel to North America this week to witness the trial of three men accused of their sons’ murders.
Perth brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Jack Carter Road were allegedly shot dead in what police believe was a robbery gone wrong in April 2024 in Mexico’s Baja California region, near Ensenada.

Three men charged with their murder will stand trial in Ensenada on Monday.
In an emotional statement shared to Facebook, Jake and Callum’s grieving parents Debra and Martin Robinson said it was “incredibly important” that they attended the court proceedings in person.
“We are going because we need to be there, not only for ourselves, but to represent the immense love, heartbreak and unimaginable loss felt by their families, friends and everyone who loved these three extraordinary young men,” Debra and Martin said.
“We want to hear the truth. We want to understand what happened. And most importantly, we want to be their voices, because they can no longer speak for themselves.
“This is not about revenge. It is about truth, justice and love.“
In the message posted on a Facebook page for their charity the Callum and Jake Robinson Foundation, the Robinsons said being present at the trial is “one of the last things we can do for Callum and Jake”.
“We carry their love with us every step of the way and we will remember them for who they were not simply for how they died,” they added.
“We will carry their names, their stories and their love into that courtroom.

Prosecutors have been faced with the difficult task of identifying who fired the weapon that claimed the lives of the two Australian brothers.
“We haven’t proven for certain which of them it was among the three of them one of them,” a prosecutor said outside of court in November.

The alleged ringleader is a man called Jesus Giraldo, known as "El Kekas".
El Kekas could face up to 378 years behind bars for the trio’s alleged murders.
His two co-accused could face 210 years if they are convicted.
It had been alleged that the murder accused tried to steal the tyres from the car of the Robinsons and their American friend, when the Australian brothers fought back before the three men were shot dead.
In November, a Mexican woman was jailed for 20 years for her part in the killings of Jake, Callum and Jack.
Ari Gisell Garcia Cota, 23, pleaded guilty to instigating the violent assault.
A court was told Ari Gisell was seeking the tyres on the surfers' car and instructed her then-boyfriend Jesús Gerardo to "bring me a good phone and good tyres for my pickup truck".
“We dreamed of seeing them grow older, of having children. That’s all taken now,” Debra said in an emotional statement given via video link.
"We live with their absence."
A tearful Ari Gisell apologised in court, saying “nothing I can say will compensate you or give you peace”.
