Sydney industrial worker dies after crushed by metal beam

A worker has died after a beam fell on them in an industrial accident in Sydney's west.

NSW Ambulance confirmed a large piece of metal crushed the 35-year-old worker at a site in Smithfield this morning.

Police were called to the scene and despite CPR being performed, the man did not survive.

"SafeWork is currently responding to notification of a fatal incident at Smithfield this morning where a man was apparently struck and killed by a steel girder," a spokesperson from SafeWork NSW said.

"SafeWork will be investigating the incident and preparing a report for the Coroner."
