Award-winning music mainstay Bluesfest has unveiled the first part of its final festival line-up, welcoming back long-time legends as well as artists on the cutting edge.

Crowded House, Vance Joy, Ocean Alley, and Tones and I mingle on a list of the first 20 artists announced for the iconic festival's swansong next year in Byron Bay.

"This lineup, meticulously curated to honour Bluesfest's rich legacy, features a dynamic mix of legendary and cutting-edge performers," festival director Peter Noble said.

"This announcement marks just the beginning. Our second lineup is well and truly in the works and the reveal is on the horizon, promising to further enhance what is set to be an epic farewell."

Noble announced next year's Bluesfest would be the final one last week.

It's the latest blow to the country's live music scene, which has seen multiple festivals sputter out recently, including Splendour In The Grass, Big Day Out, and Soundwave.

"As we prepare to close this legendary chapter, we are bringing together an extraordinary lineup of artists in what we believe is at the core a REAL Bluesfest lineup, showcasing the best of blues, roots music, and beyond," the festival's new release read.

"We're going all out with a lineup that reflects the spirit of what Bluesfest has always been about: world-class music, unforgettable performances, and a community that loves and supports live music."

The final festival will be held over four days next year, from April 17-20 - the Easter long weekend.

It will take place at the 300-acre Byron Events Farm, 11km north of Byron Bay.
