Perth man in coma after being critically injured in Bali moped accident

A Perth mother is on a heartbreaking quest to bring home her son who is fighting for life in a Bali hospital.

Shane Ramsey is in a coma after a scooter crash three days ago during a holiday for his friend's wedding.

Catherine Ramsey is doing everything she can to help her son after the Seminyak accident.

"I just want to get him home, we're in a strange country," Ramsey said.

"And I just want to go home, he needs to be back in Perth." 

The mother has just paid a $70,000 surgery bill, with her son's treatment costing $9000 a day.

"The medevac, I don't know what that's going to cost," Ramsey said.

The 30-year-old  wasn't wearing a helmet when he came off his scooter on Sunday morning.

His skull was left fractured and he had bleeding on his brain and lungs.

The Perth tradie's friends bought him the airline ticket but he didn't take out insurance.

He was taken by taxi to hospital, where medical bills are climbing.

"I'll sell the house if I have to, we just have to get him back to where he needs to be," his mother said.

The Ramsey family is relying on strangers to fund the 30-year-old's return to Perth and an online fundraiser has so far raised more than $65,000.

"I don't have any words to be honest for the support we are getting from people," his mother said.

"Don't do it, it's just too dangerous," she said.

WA Premier Roger Cook appealed for all holidaymakers to "just get travel insurance".

"It's the easiest way to protect yourself and keep yourself safe overseas," he said.
