A convoy of suspected stolen vehicles has caused chaos in Melbourne' south-east, slamming into parked cars and sending them spinning into front yards.

Nine cars were damaged but nobody was badly hurt.

One Blackburn South local said it looked like someone had "picked up half of the street, tossed it around and dumped it back on the ground" after the incident in the early hours of this morning.

A 19-year-old allegedly fled the wreckage of a suspected stolen sedan and was found about eight hours later passed out underneath a car, next to a bag of jewellery.

"(I) saw this thing, thought what the hell's that, turned out to be a dude," car owner Peter Saaksjarvi said.

The teen was arrested but later released pending further inquiries, Victoria Police said.

Police said the sedan and a ute, now totalled, arrived in Holland Road early this morning and the occupants became involved in a road rage incident.

After the crashes, a third vehicle arrived and some of the offenders piled and were driven away.

Many of the wrecked cars were parked outside a home where a housewarming was underway, including a BMW sent spinning into a front yard.

The street remained a crime scene for most of the day but nobody was hurt.
