Queenslanders lashed by severe thunderstorms with more to come

Severe thunderstorms have rolled into south-east Queensland with the possibility of wild weather continuing tomorrow.

The extreme conditions began about 5pm in the west near Roma before moving east and into the Scenic Rim.

Torrential rain, damaging winds, lightning and some hail followed the weather system as it moved across the south-east.

The weather was forecast to continue throughout the night, with Ipswich, Logan and Brisbane City in the firing line.

Meteorologist Angus Hines said the main storm risk in Queensland tomorrow would stretch from the Capricornia coast down to the south-east.

This includes Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Scenic Rim, the Darling Downs, the Granite Belt and the Burnett region.

"Some storms in this area may become severe with damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall," Angus Hines said.

"Further north from Rockhampton northwards, a warm and mostly clear day.

"Much of central and western Queensland will have a hot and clear day for Thursday."

A severe weather warning is in place for multiple locations for the rest of this afternoon for heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hailstones.

The warning is current for people in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, the Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay, Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.

A severe thunderstorm warning is also in place for Ipswich and parts of Somerset, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay council areas.
