Anzac Day is Australia's most solemn public holiday, marking the anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli during World War I and commemorating the nation's fallen soldiers in all wars.
Unlike many public holidays though, if Anzac Day falls on a weekend, Australians are not always given a day off work the following business day, as the dawn services and other ceremonies are always held on April 25.
This year, Anzac Day falls today, Tuesday, April 25. Here's what you need to know about whether you get a public holiday in your state or territory.

Australian Capital Territory
Yes. Residents of the ACT receive today as a public holiday due to Anzac Day.
New South Wales
Yes. As with the ACT, residents in New South Wales are given a public holiday for Anzac Day today.
Northern Territory
Yes. As it falls on a Tuesday this year, people in the Northern Territory are given a public holiday for Anzac Day.
Unlike in some states, if Anzac Day falls on a Sunday, then the following Monday will become the Northern Territory's public holiday.

Queensland
Queenslanders will receive the day off today.
Under Queensland legislation, the Holidays Act 1983 provides for an extra public holiday to be added when Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day falls on a weekend.
South Australia
South Australians have a public holiday today.
Unusually, the Holidays Act 1910 (SA) prescribes each and every Sunday to be a public holiday.
In South Australia, when New Year's Day, Australia Day, Anzac Day and Christmas Day fall on a Sunday, that day and the following Monday will be public holidays.
Tasmania
Tasmanians receive today as a public holiday.
Unlike South Australia and Queensland, residents in the Apple Isle are not given a substitute or additional public holiday when Anzac Day falls on Saturday or Sunday.

Victoria
Victorians get a public holiday for Anzac Day this year.
The state treats April 25 as a half-restricted trading day, meaning most shops and businesses will be closed from until 1pm.
Some shops, including chemists, petrol stations, cafes, takeaway outlets and hire outlets, are exempt from the restrictions though.
Western Australia
West Australians receive today as a public holiday this year.
In WA, when Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is also given as a public holiday. The same goes for New Year's Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
