Family's 'heartbreak' as coronial inquest hears of cover-up

Details of a cover-up have been told to a coronial inquest into the death of a South Australian grandmother in Malaysia.

The remains of Anna Jenkins were found at a Penang construction site in 2020, almost three years after she vanished.

Son Greg Jenkins was left to find the remains of his mother at the site, however the inquest has heard that workers found them first.

The inquest was told project manager Terrence Theseira ordered the workers to re-bury her bones.

No call was made to the police or his supervisors until days later, which was only prompted after a worker informed the family.

Jenkins said he felt "heartbreak" and "anger" after the information was made public today.

"Who in their right mind thinks that's the right thing to do?" he said.

The family questioned whether the decision was to safeguard the Malaysian developer's interests.

"It's taboo to buy property that's had human remains on it," Jenkins said.

"I wonder whether or not this is to protect the millions of dollars."

The coronial inquest is also investigating whether police failed in their duty to investigate Ms Jenkins' disappearance.

It will continue until Friday.
