Australian man accused of drug smuggling in Bali likely to avoid death penalty
An Australian man has likely avoided the death penalty after prosecutors in Bali decided against bringing the most serious drug charges against him.
Queensland-born Lamar Ahchee broke down in tears after hearing in court yesterday that he could instead face nine years behind bars.
Indonesian police allege 43-year-old Lamar Ahchee organised 1.7kg of cocaine worth $1.1 million to be delivered to his Bali apartment.

Ahchee was arrested in May on the street near his home in Canggu.
It's alleged Ahchee instructed a driver to collect two boxes stuffed with balls of cocaine disguised as chocolate.
He was allegedly paid $4700 to have the haul delivered to him.
In previous court hearings, Ahchee's lawyer said his client didn't know what was inside the packages he was collecting,
Following his arrest, Indonesian police showcased the 206 packages of the nearly two-kilogram interception.
