US 'zombie walk' turns to chaos after deaf motorist ploughs into pedestrians

A deaf motorist who believed his car was being attacked has run down a 64-year-old woman during the annual San Diego Zombie Walk.

The driver and his family were travelling through the downtown area on Saturday evening when they crossed paths with participants in the Zombie Walk, an event in which enthusiasts don costumes and shuffle through urban areas for fun.

The man waited for the undead hordes to pass, but they attacked his car, breaking his windshield and frightening his young children, he claims. 

The man put his foot down and drove off to escape, but hit a nearby woman who was not participating in the walk.

The woman was seriously injured, and taken to a local hospital.

A video recording of the incident shows the woman being knocked to the ground and bleeding on the tarmac.

The organisers of the Zombie Walk require all participants to obey traffic laws, including those around blocking vehicles.

They also hit out at media reports that participants in the walk were interfering with the man's car. 

"[There are]  no zombies touching car that we can see," they said. "Man sits on hood of car, after car attempts to force way through people in crosswalk, nobody beating on car." 

"We expect an immediate correction and retraction from all media who have claimed otherwise," they said. 

The video does appear to show that the window is punched after the man begins to accelerate through the crowd. 

The driver is not likely to face any charges, San Diego CBS reported.
