Widowed father overwhelmed by response to his plea for breast milk to feed baby

A US father has been able to honour his late wife's wish to feed their baby son breast milk, after his social media appeal was met with donations.

Oregon man Alex Green made a plea for milk on Facebook four months after his wife died in a car crash and he struggled to find donated breast milk to feed their eight-month old son, KATU2 reported.

His sister had suggested he ask local mothers on the Portland Mamas page.

"I am a new single father to Brody, my 8-month-old son. His mother died in a car crash four months ago," Mr Green wrote on the page.

"His mother wanted to breast feed him until he was a year old. So for the past 4 months i have continuously been seeking our breast milk donations.

"And that is what I am doing now. If anyone on this page has any milk or knows where i can get some either donated or moderately priced that would be amazing. Brody and I live in Bend but I am not having any luck finding milk here. Thank you anyone and everyone for the support and information."

Mr Green said the women who had responded to his plea were the real heroes.

Health authorities recommend that breast milk is donated through an official milk bank that can screen donors.
